Replacement Project

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One continues to make significant progress on projects funded by the voter-approved 2022 Capital Facilities Bond. Construction is underway on the replacement of Station 51, located at 6711 Kimball Drive NW, following the station's temporary closure in September 2025 for demolition and reconstruction.

The project is expected to take approximately 18–24 months to complete and will result in a modern, two-story, 20,740-square-foot facility designed to meet the growing needs of the Gig Harbor community for decades to come.

Station 51: Then and Now

Originally built in 1979, the existing Station 51 is a single-story, 12,000-square-foot facility that has undergone only minor renovations over the years, most recently in 2000. The replacement station has been designed with firefighter safety, operational efficiency, and future growth in mind. Features of the new station include:

• Three large pull-through apparatus bays for current and future emergency vehicles.
• Two smaller bays for command vehicles.
• A dedicated decontamination area and proper storage for structural firefighting gear.
• Compliance with Washington State energy code, including solar panels.
• Modern technology and communications systems throughout the facility.
• Dormitory space for up to 11 personnel.
• A fire service-themed community park plaza.
• A fire pole providing quick access from the second floor to the apparatus bays.

Maintaining Service During Construction

While Station 51 is under construction, emergency response resources have been strategically relocated to maintain service levels throughout the District:

• Engine 51 has been relocated to Station 53 (906 Kamus Drive NW, Fox Island) and is operating as Engine 53.
• Medic 51 has been relocated to Station 52 (2217 Point Fosdick Drive NW) and is operating as Medic 52.
• Battalion 51 has been relocated to Station 56 (5210 144th Street NW) and continues to operate as Battalion 51.
• To enhance overall district coverage, Engine 56 has been relocated from Station 56 to Station 57 (10521 Crescent Valley Drive NW) and is operating as Engine 57.

These temporary relocations ensure the District continues to provide the high level of emergency response our community expects while construction of the new Station 51 is underway.
