Car seats can be confusing. Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One offers free, one-on-one car seat safety checks for residents within our district (98332, 98333 and 98335) and current GHFMO employees.

During your appointment, a trained technician will guide you through the installation process, answer questions and make sure your car seat is being used correctly. Because the goal is to help you feel confident installing and using your car seat on your own, you will make the adjustments and complete the installation with guidance from our technician.

If you live outside our service area and are not a current GHFMO employee, please contact your local fire department to ask about car seat safety check availability.

Things to Know Before Your Appointment

• We cannot accommodate drop-in car seat checks at our stations. All car seat checks are by appointment only.
• Appointments are typically available Monday through Thursday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, based on technician availability.
• Please bring your car seat unpacked and, if available, the car seat owner’s manual.
• If possible, arrive with the car seat installed in your vehicle. Don’t worry if you aren’t sure you’ve installed it correctly. That’s what the appointment is for!
• Having your child present is helpful for checking proper fit, but it is not required. Expectant parents, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome to schedule an appointment.
