As it was during the formation of the fire district in 1945, fire suppression is still the primary mission of Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One. While the fire department has assumed many roles over the years to serve the community, fire suppression remains our core mission. In spite of the evolution of fire service technology, firefighting is still a dangerous and labor intensive endeavor.

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One is proud to have an impeccably maintained fleet of fire apparatus that is strategically placed to provide a quick response for our community. Our response is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a combination of career and volunteer responders. Our career members staff 5 stations with a minimum of 17 people on duty. From those stations we provide service with 5 engine companies, 3 medic units and 1 battalion chief.

One of the engine companies is responsible to cross staff a heavy rescue vehicle for motor vehicle accidents and other special rescue incidents. These units provide our guaranteed response to all areas of the district. Our volunteer staff is responsible to respond 4 engines, 3 water tenders and 1 rehab unit from 4 of our stations that are staffed on a part time basis. These units provide first response in their station areas and support fire suppression activities across the district when available. Our fire suppression mission is to provide a rapid response and quick attack to keep fires small. We believe this approach to our mission will limit the risk of loss of life and property to hostile fire events in our community.
